Yet another enjoyable Filipino actionfest set in Vietnam. But this one's a little different. Ron Marchini stars as the 'Commander Rainbow' of the German title who is in a POW camp somewhere in Vietnam, together with two fellow soldiers (one of 'em is Mike Monty in a cameo). They manage to escape, only his colleague is a selfish bastard and since Monty's character is wounded he cold-bloodedly kills him. Ron sees this, so he gets a bullet too. Only he survives, of course, and is nursed back to health by a beautiful Vietnam girl. Months later, he is married to said girl and the two have a baby. Meanwhile, in the US of A, the bastard who shot Ron volunteers to go back to Vietnam to search for POWs. He is not happy to learn that Ron still lives, since he's the only one who can report his evil deeds. So he partners up with a cruel Vietcong sergeant in order to kill Ron. But Ron gets into serious Rambo-mode when his wife is raped and killed, and not one of the evil bastards will leave to see the end credits. For some strange reason, Ron has got a sword and he sure knows how to use it. So imagine him strolling through the Philippines jungles with his sword, slicing and dicing his enemies. He knows martial arts too, so there are plenty of blows and kicks on display too. And, of course, he has machine guns and uses them too from time to time, one in each hand. FORGOTTEN WARRIOR is not great, but it's an action-packed fun flick, pretty violent but not overly gory. The body-count is high, the pacing good, and the cast is okay too. Ron Marcini, who also co-produced, seems to have fun in his role, particularly when he handles his sword. If nothing else, this flicks manages to entertain for eighty diverting minutes. The movie isn’t nearly as explosive as the cover artwork suggests though. Still recommended for fans of Filipino B-action-movies.

  1. Watched the film yesterday on Greek vhs (Aduio Visual Enterprises, fullscreen).
Ok I guess. Lousy story, bad acting, ut the action is alright. Some chessy moments that are incredibly stupid that it'll make you laugh (rainbow scene). Overall 5,5/10

  2. It's probably time for a re-watch. I think this might even have been the very first Filipino war flick I watched when I began collecting. I was pretty good entertained but then again I didn't really have anything to hold it up against.
