PHANTOM WAR (HK, 1990 or 1991?)

aka Ying lun yuet jin

I haven't seen this film and I'm not even sure it belongs here but, uh, the title indicates there's a chance it might. LOL.

Cast info and review lifted from IMDb:

Directed by: Phillip Ko & Siu Gwong Yeung

Cast: Marcus Fox,Phillip Ko, Kit Ying Lam, Siu-Ming Lau, Alex Man, Ben Ng.

Miyagis_Sweaty_wifebeater:
The Phantom War (1991) was an early star vehicle for Ben Ng. He stars as a shell shocked veteran who's past keeps on haunting him. No matter how hard he tries to forget his traumatic years in the army, there's always someone or something that reminds him. During the past few years, Ben has been trying to rebuild his life. Everything is going along fine until he learns about a soldier from his company who still has an unsettled grudge with Ben. What's a crazy war vet going to do? Does he take this "new" threat from his past lying down or will he do something about it? Hardcore stuff from a future category III villain.

Highly recommended.

  1. Ah Phantom War, Phillip Ko directs a potboiler of an actioner with exteriors shot in the UK...nowhere near as good s the classic Killers Romance (his take on Crying Freeman, starring Simon Yam)...strangely both movies were shot at least in part in my home town Croydon, at the evry time I was moving to Hong Kong....

Alex Man is the scenery chewing villain, while Ben Ng struggles as a good guy....

  2. Hey Mike! Gee, someone else who also discovered HK films in around 1990! LOL. I discovered HK cinema thru reading "In The Flesh" zine while living in London late 80s early 90s! (The English dubbed) Killers Romance was one of the first tapes I got hold of back then and although it's been yrs and yrs since I watched it the last time it still holds a special place in this old heroic bloodshed heart of mine. LOL.

    Thanks for stopping by.
