There's a couple of trashy Vietnam War flicks on VHS from a seller on eBay in Japan. I have copies of both tapes and you can look them up in the bar to the right.
ESCAPE TO NOWHERE, directed by Teddy Chiu (as Irvin Johnson), starring Jim Gaines & Mike Monty. NTSC.
EDIT: this tape went for just under $17.
BYE BYE VIETNAM (Italy) directed by Camilo Teti (not to be confused with the Filipino/Italian film LAST PLATOON (aka Angel Hill: L'Ultima Missione) directed by Paul D. Robinson (aka Ignazio Dolce) which was also released as "Bye Bye Vietnam" in some territories. LETTERBOXED. NTSC.

I'm glad to say they both went to me again! I am loving these Japanese VHS and loving philo' vietnam war movies! I'll be putting my review of Phantom Soldiers on my blog shortly. Thanks for getting me into these!

ReplyDeletePS: I should point out that when I link to all these tapes it's because they're auctions for rare Filipino (sometimes Italian) Vietnam war flicks on rare Japanese video tape. I try and buy all these myself (I already had these two) but needless to say they're not all as good as say PHANTOM SOLDIERS and some of them I haven't even watched myself. And of course even the ones I do like you may not like at all, or the other way round. Sometimes you (we) just have to try out stuff that looks cool and see if it really IS that cool. Sometimes it turns out to be "Phantom Soldiers" and other times it's a dud. LOL.

ReplyDeleteIn the Bert Spoor interview that I posted he talked about a film he was in called THE B-TEAM. He'd never been able to find a copy and he believed it might not even have been finished. Imagine my surprise when I later found the very same film on a rare Japanese tape. The reason it had "disappeared" was they'd changed the title before it came out. The bad part is that they'd tried to make a Vietnam War comedy!! Ron Kristoff as a funny guy??? Haha. It sound funny but the film sucked. That's probably my least favourite of the lot. xD
