Linkage

Google Analytics tells me someone paid a visit to this here wee blog of mine from a new blog out there called Fire in the Jungle. They're not about Filipino 'Nam flicks as such but they mentioned a handful of Santiago movies and linked to here. Thanks for the link, buddy, much appreciated!!

You can check the post in question here and there's another post here about two more films of the kind we enjoy around here. The person behind Fire in the Jungle doesn't seem to be quite as enthusiastic about these trashy gems as you and I but, hey, we can't all have the same good taste in celluloid entertainment now can we. LOL

EDIT: Seems my above statement about that blogger being slightly less enthusiastic about these films wasn't quite right. Actually not at all. LOL. Check the comments' section to this post. Apologies for the slip-up. :D

And more links from non fellow action film review sites:

Combat Centric, a forum dedicated to "Talk Forum for Military, Police, Martial Artists and Aware Citizenry" also linked to me. Thanks, fellas!

Not true! Lemme know which parts of my posts suggest low enthusiasm about these movies and maybe I can reword it to better communicate my thoughts.

    And thanks for the link!

  2. Hi there,

Apologies for this late response! I was off-line for quite a few days.

In regards to my comment about your post: Being a fan of these films I'm certainly happy to hear that you like them as well! The reason I made that comment was not least due to this part of your post:

But let’s not confuse Cirio Santiago’s films with Coppola’s masterpiece. These are B-movies. Cheap, cheesy, and trashy. [...] Enjoying these kinds of flicks is an acquired taste. Subpar acting, porous scripts, gratuitous action, infinite-ammo guns, fake blood, and occasional nudity.

Now, you're probably not saying anything I wouldn't say myself; Yes, these films are trashy, etc. but the reason I thought you didn't like them is that you leave out saying that you actually enjoy/like them and are entertained by them.

When someone points out ingredients that many would regard as negative/bad but doesn't mention that he actually likes the topic in question despite these flaws I personally get the impression he means it in a negative way and that he doesn't like the topic (in this case this film genre).

Maybe I just mis-read your post and your liking of these films is obvious to other readers but that is the reason for my comment. Needless to say, I have no wish to state something about your post that isn't correct so I'll add an update note.

Thanks for your comment, mate. :D

  3. Cool, thanks for pointing that out to me, Jack. I changed a sentence to make it more clear:

If enjoying these kinds of flicks is an acquired taste, then I've acquired the taste!

    Yum!
    Dustin
