Trashy 'Nam Christmas

Hey, merry Christmas to y'all wherever you might be. It's December 24 and in my corner of this messed up world that's the big day. Of course some of you celebrate it on the 25th but regardless I wish you all some mighty fine Xmas holidays (whether you celebrate or not). I know I should've done some proper reviews and shit but I'll do that next year. Maybe.

But in any case thanks to you all for reading my crappy stuff. I must admit I still find it extraordinarily strange that this is the only blog dedicated entirely to trashy Filipino war flicks. Weird! But then again, having no competition also means I'm offering the best there is, haha (and of course there are a few other sites that deal with Filipino films in general).

But jokes aside, it's also a little lonely out here and lately it's begun to feel even lonelier as old fans disappear; Fred Adelman left the Filipino thread at Dvdmaniacs, and neither Sct. Rock nor Kothar, the most enthusiastic collectors of the genre on Cinehound, have posted there for a very long time. But if nothing else, Adelman is still posting his cool reviews over at Critical Condition (and has done so for more than 25yrs now! Check link in the link section).

Andrew Leavold is still working on the THE SEARCH FOR WENG WENG film and the latest I've heard (from yesterday) is that it'll get finished next year. Of course then it'll probably get shown at all kindsa film festivals of which none are located in Denmark and in 2 or 3 years there'll be a DVD and we can finally get to watch it over here. Unless, of course, I get a bootleg from Manila, haha. If you've followed this blog since last summer you'll remember how I wrote about Nick Nicholson being hospitalised (for a couple hours or so!!) due to a heart attack but fortunately he's back again and seems to be doing well.

Bert Spoor is still out there, not so verbal about Filipino films at the moment but still a frequent poster on Facebook. Paul Cooke is also a multo rare quest in the 'Pino thread on Dvdmaniacs these days but he's still doing his cool action film blog (check link section) so all's well in that camp too. I hope they're all well and all. In fact I hope you're all doin' good out there. Anyway, it's late so I'll just have a cup o'coffee and then hit the sack (yes, I drink coffee before I go to sleep and no it doesn't keep me awake, LOL). Marry Xmas, fellas.

PS: Oh, and I was thinking of posting a Christmas YouTube clip here from a trashy Filipino war flick but, uhh, I don't actually recall any of those films having any Xmas scenes in 'em, hahaha.

Anyway, here's a couple of trailers from Filipino Vietnam War flicks you can watch during the holidays if it all gets too schmaltzy for you or you just need to get away from the rest of the family for a while ^o^

EDIT (half an hour later): My idea was to just post a handful of the tried and well known Filipino trailers here; trailers that are sourced from Greek or Japanese vhs, HOWEVER, when I began looking I stumbled over a YouTube account where someone has uploaded a whole bunch of trailers for Filipino films and I'm dead certain they are sourced from real film prints!!! They certainly look 50 times better than the other trailers!!! Check them out. This is indeed very exciting!!

  1. Merry Christmas & a Ha'Pino' Year ;) Jack. Great post. Time for me to dive back in with more Pino pieces for sure. I'll be sure to make 2010 the year to watch the bulging Japanese VHS collection for these rarities. Have a Fantastic time Jack. Best Wishes, Paul.

  2. Thanks, Paul and right back at ya! Btw, did you see (on my other blog) that I got hold of THE LAST MATCH? The setup sounds ridiculous but I'm looking forward to it regardless! xD

  3. I'm glad cineexcel put these trailers out on youtube. Maybe it'll get them a good distribution deal. It seems Fred over at Critcon did manage to get screeners of some cineexcel title, he's reviewed a few of them. Although Kill Squad is a wildly entertaining movie that seems to fit here, it was shot in California (San Francisco Bay Area). My old broadcasting teacher Michael D. Lee helped produce it. Other sources also claim a Filipino connection, not sure where that came from though? Thanks, much prosperity in the coming new year!

  4. Thanks for your info on Kill Squad. I watched it way back in the 90s and yeah I put the trailer in here because I saw it mentioned as being a Filipino film on some site.

Thanks I'll try and do my best. :o)
