ABOVE THE WAR (1989)

aka THE B-TEAM

This is THE B-TEAM!!!
You might remember that in ANDREW LEAVOLD's interview with BERT SPOOR (which I posted here last year) they both talked about not knowing what happened to the movie THE B-TEAM from 1989 which Bert was in.

They talked about maybe it hadn't even been released or maybe it came out under another alternative title; Well, last night I discovered that this is actually the case!!! (which basically means I've had the bloody movie sitting on my shelf all the time without knowing it!). THE B-TEAM was retitled ABOVE THE WAR and to confuse things even further the Japanese video release is yet again retitled SEARCH AND DESTROY!!!

VHS / Japan / letterbox / English audio / Japanese subs

  1. NB: In my original entry for this film someone wrote a comment and unfortunately it got deleted when I moved the post. I'm sorry mate I didn't mean to and I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me, LOL. Alright, I'm exaggerating this now but I just don't want anybody to think I don't care about readers' comments cos I do. Well, most of the time anyway. Unless I'm being arrogant or angry or bored or some such. xD

  2. Heey, I've just discovered that I still have the original entry for ABOVE THE WAR! No worries then. I'll keep the above post though (cos it's funny, haha).

  3. You solved a mystery, man. I was confused about this film, even thought it was a Cirio Santiago production for a while. Can't remember much about it.
There are at least 2 more films I can't recall, one I'm playing a customer in a shop for angling matters. Paul Vance is doing the salesman.(had something to do with a Ninja in America, not Mike Dudikoff's) Another one together with 'crazy' Willy and the Judd family, we are goons and are dividing our loot. While running away from the table I got shot in the back. It wouldn't surprise me at all if you have copies of these films in your video library. You have to watch them all over again Jack....

Yeah, but one mystery apparently led to another one as now we don't know what PASSAGE TO HELL is, haha.

And did you know THE B-TEAM/ABOVE THE WAR is actually a COMEDY??? It's weird to see people like Ron Kristoff attempting to be funny!!

About the other two films; I have no recollection of the scenes you mention but I'll be looking for them when I watch/rewatch films.

The Ninja film wouldn't be NINJA'S FORCE would it? The Kristoff/Teddy Chiu directed film from '84. There is an entry for it on Andrew's blog:

  6. Oh, so that's the one you were talking about!! BLOOD DEPTS!!

Yeah, I have that on VHS. It's a VERY intertaing Filipino film! The only reason it's not listed here is it's not a war movie.
